"Time Is But the Stream"
"The water you touch in a river is the last of that which has passed, and the first of that which is coming; thus it is with time." - Leonardo da Vinci
A desert dweller my whole life, my grandfather first introduced me to fishing and wading into hip high water. While I never really took to the fishing (sorry Grandpa), I could have stood next to him for hours. My stillness contrasted by the whistle of his fishing line in the air and the weight of the water pushing against my legs. An entire ecosystem rushed past us, held together by the constant flow of water unconcerned with our little intrusion. My grandpa is gone now, but the memories remain. Be it da Vinci or Thoreau, water is the flow of time and time is best spent fishing with Grandpa. Here, a hand reaches out to touch the surface of a stream of water as trouts swim upstream against the current of wood grain. The live edge piece of Acacia wood serves as a natural representation of the pattern of water currents.
